One of the things I love about being a photographer in SoCal is that there’s such a range of beautiful nature at my fingertips. Beach shoot? Desert? Mountains? Whatever Southern California engagement photo locations you’re looking for, you’re sure to find them.

Joshua Tree National Park

Truly iconic, Joshua Tree National Park spans 800,000 acres of stunning desert. Out of all Southern California engagement photo locations, this one will give you striking and memorable engagement photos while you soak up the sun and explore the sights. You can head to Indian Cove to take photos among the dramatic Wonderland of Rocks or seek out the famous trees that give the park its name.

If you’re lucky enough to get engaged in springtime, you just might catch the wildflowers in Joshua Tree, which is truly special. And, after the sun sets and the engagement shoot is over, stick around for a romantic evening gazing at the stars.

Laguna Beach

Explore the area’s most renowned sea-cave at the Thousand Step Beach, have fun checking out the tidepools, and end your engagement photo shoot on the sand, getting your feet wet as the sunset lights up the sky behind you. Then turn it into date night as you head back into Laguna Beach’s chic and charming town center for dinner.

Thomas F Riley Wilderness Park

Thomas F Riley Wilderness Park contains over 800 acres of trails through grassy hills and oak and sycamore woods in Orange County. It’s perfect to wander in with your love.

One of the things that makes this park a popular place for families and photographers alike is the gorgeous light. Late afternoon melts into a luscious golden hour, with light coming through the leaves and streaming through the long grass to create such beautiful shots! 

Laguna Mountain

Just an hour’s drive outside of San Diego, the Laguna mountains offer jaw-dropping beauty at 6,000-foot elevation. Mount Laguna is a tiny mountain town that exists as a delightful gateway to the natural wonders of this region. Popular as a camping destination, Mount Laguna itself boasts miles and miles of trail through the slopes and the forest.

As for the best Southern California engagement photo locations up here, you can’t go wrong with heading to the Laguna Meadow Loop Trail. This huge wet meadow is in the middle of a forest of pines and oaks, and it holds not one, but two lakes. If that wasn’t enough, throughout spring and summer it blooms with wildflowers. The flowers are at their peak in May and June, but you won’t be disappointed if you head up there in the fall: the woods blaze with color.

Sunset Cliffs

If you’re looking for Southern California engagement photo locations, the Sunset Cliffs in San Diego are an ideal spot. Three miles of coastal cliffs stretching from Point Loma, this coastline offers intricate rock formations where the cliffs have been carved into arches and caves by the pounding sea.
